Do It or Dodge It?

By on September 5, 2016

A guide to freedom from the oppression of an over-loaded to do list

Just about every Independent Practice owner has more tasks on the to do list than time in which to do them, so here is a list of 8 self-coaching questions that you can use to prioritise your list and transform the way you work.

Once you have applied some or all of them to a specific task you will be able to decide if you are going to Do It or Dodge It.

If the answer is Do It make an appointment for it, allocate a realistic amount time to do the job well, keep the appointment and put a do not disturb sign up while you are working.

If the answer is Dodge it – do so right away.

How to Dodge It

Dump It – if it won’t get you closer to your goals, and if there will be no negative consequences for not doing it then just dump it.

Delegate It – give a capable person clear instruction on what success looks like and when it should be achieved by.

Delegate it next time – instead of spending time just doing it yourself, invest that time in training someone to do it using the current task as the training material – so you can delegate it next time.

Your goal should be to set yourself up so you can dodge as much as possible and only do the tasks that truly are the best possible use of your time and energy.
